Against Abortion.
Arguments against the evil of abortion, which is infanticide.
Thesis
In this article I will attempt to show that abortion constitutes infanticide and should therefore be banned. My thesis relies upon the idea that an unborn baby is a living human being as opposed to a non-living clump of cells. I believe that the entire abortion debate surrounds this problem of when a human being receives the right to life.
"Abortion constitutes infanticide and should therefore be banned."
Objection 1: "Unborn babies are not living human beings."
The principal argument for abortion is that the unborn are not yet human beings and therefore do not have human rights as the born do. On the contrary, I would argue that the only difference between an 8 month old unborn baby and a baby who was born 1 month ago is the location they are in. If a woman delivers the child prematurely, often he or she can still survive with the help of modern medicine. Now one could argue (and many do) that this means that a child has human rights from the moment they can survive outside of the womb, I would argue that this would mean that babies in poor, underdeveloped countries would be worth less than babies in rich, developed countries where the medical industry can save them if they are born prematurely.
However, I believe that we need not try and pick an arbitrary moment in time in which a baby becomes human, we know when a baby becomes human: at conception. Ten out of ten times that a fertilized egg develops succesfully, it develops into a human being. Never a cat, never a dog, never a rock, always a human being. It is clear then that a fertilized egg is the earliest stage of the human species because of this categorization. At no point between conception and birth does any biological process happen that could be explained to "grant" human rights to a baby, conception is the only logical, non-arbitrary moment at which human rights are received.
Objection 2: "Abortion is not killing and can therefore not be infanticide."
One may say that abortion is a medical procedure that is to the benefit of the woman, and not the killing of a child. To those I would say that the stated goal of an abortion is to terminate the life of the child inside of a woman's womb. As we have established that the unborn are living human beings, abortion is the termination of their lives, which we refer to as "killing". In light of these facts, we can conclude that abortion is in fact infanticide because it is the killing of a living human child, which is the definition of infanticide.
Objection 3: "Women have a right to live their lives how they want to."
The pro abortion sect often argues from emotion, stating that abortion is the only way that women could freely live their lives how they want to. They feel that otherwise women are forced to birth babies which impacts the rest of their lives, even if they don't want that to be the case. While I agree that women should be free to live their lives how they want to, I would say that the right to life for a human child supersedes the right to freedom of life for a woman. Additionally, in cases of consensual sex, protected or unprotected, there is always a "risk" of pregnancy, therefore having sex is always accompanied by consenting to possibly becoming pregnant. One could reduce this possibility, but not avoid it entirely.
Objection 4: "Women who have been raped shouldn't also have to be responsible for the child."
The rape of a woman is always evil and deeply sad, it still does not justify murdering a child to soften the blow to the woman. Because we have already established that an unborn child is a living human child, our solution to whatever evil and sad situation should never be to resort to the killing of a human child. I have deep respect and sympathy for pregnant victims of rape who protect their children with the love befitting a mother.
Conclusion
I believe I have sufficiently shown that unborn babies, from conception up to birth, are living human children. Since abortion is the killing of a living human child, it logically follows that abortion constitutes infanticide and should therefore be banned, as all other forms of infanticide are. I strongly believe that most women who have had an abortion have been lied to by their peers, politicians and healthcare professionals into thinking that its just a medical procedure, and would not have gone through with it had they understood the reality of the situation. I believe all women who have had an abortion to be mothers of dead children, and I pray for them and the souls of those who died because of the grave evil of abortion.
